Copyright Board Sets Private Copying Levies for 1999-2000

Ottawa -- The Copyright Board today set private copying levies on blank audio recording media. The per unit levy is set at 23.3¢ on audio cassette tapes of 40 minutes or longer (zero for those of shorter length), 60.8¢ on MiniDisc, CD-R Audio and CD-RW Audio, and 5.2¢ on CD-R and CD-RW. Manufacturers and importers of blank audio recording media will pay the levy to the Canadian Private Copying Collective (CPCC) when these media are sold in Canada.
